The news site for UF Health is home to Health in a Heartbeat and Animal Airwaves, two radio shows produced in partnership between UF Health Communications and WUFT-FM in Gainesville, Florida. Both shows are daily radio series that air both locally and to large audiences across the country.

Problem
After moving the majority of content over to ufhealth.org, the UF Health News site was home to two remaining radio shows. The site hadn't been worked on for several years. The content felt out-of-date and the site felt abandoned. Producers didn't want to share the site with potential affiliates because of the outdated look and confusing information architecture.
Process
This project started with a lot of research into other podcast and radio show sites, as well as relevant academic healthcare content. I explored audio player types, subscription avenues and show distribution networks. I also took an in-depth look at the current site's architecture and performed an inventory of all outbound links and content.
We met with the key stakeholders for the shows, where we identified pain points and key areas of improvement. We asked each stakeholder to choose a primary and secondary action they wanted users to complete when visiting the site.
Designs were presented in a follow-up session and a direction was chosen to move forward with. Final approval was obtained after a few revisions, and the development of the Wordpress theme began.
Results
A refreshed design and a revamped site architecture addressed the production team's main concerns and helped to better facilitate return visits, content exploration, affiliate interest, user interaction and helped to establish the site as a resource with reliable and trusted content.
